KING OF FASHION (working title: Király Tamás) is the never-before-told story of the ‘Eastern European Jean Paul Gautier’ spanning three decades from his rapid rise to fame in the 80s, on both sides of the iron curtain, to his tragic death in 2013 when he was killed in his own flat leaving behind a truly unique legacy.

director’s bio:

Noémi Varga is a London based filmmaker. She is a recent graduate of the Royal College of Art, where she specialised in Moving Image. Her work is mainly preoccupied with exploring the boundaries of conventional documentary filmmaking, applying the tools of cinematic storytelling to all her subjects. Her previous short, ‘The Happiest Barrack’ won three BAFTA qualifying awards and premiered at International Film Festival Rotterdam. She just wrapped her latest film, ‘And It Was The Same With My Son’ about a British Muslim mother who has lost her child to radicalisation, funded by Film London/London Calling scheme. She is also working on her first feature length documentary which was awarded development funding in her native Hungary as well as from Creative Europe ‘Single Projects’. The film is the never before told story of the rise and fall of the ‘Jean Paul Gaultier of the Eastern Bloc’, Király Tamás. Noémi was a FLAMIN New Approaches mentee with the project in 2017. Her previous films have screened at the ICA, IFF Rotterdam, Aesthetica, Underwire and the Ludwig Museum of Arts amongst others.
